Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, America has seen a rise of attacks on people of Asian descent. The Lucille Lortel Theatre and Lucille Lortel Foundation stand in solidarity with the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities in New York and across the country against the latest wave of hate crimes against AAPI individuals across the country.
Supporting those in our community means taking action and standing up to those who racially attack AAPI individuals.
Racism has no place in the theatre or in our country. Below is a list of resources, that is by no means comprehensive, but can serve as a starter guide.
Be an ally:
- Report incidents and donate to stopaapihate.org
- Participate in virtual bystander intervention training with Hollaback!
- Call your elected representatives
Help and Resources for AAPI:
- Asian Mental Health Collective
- NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness
- Asian American Business Development Center
We continue to champion AAPI-led organizations and artists so that they may continue to have a voice in theatre without restrictions. We would like to uplift the following AAPI-led organizations:
Theatre Companies
- Ma-Yi Theatre Company*
- National Asian American Theatre Company*
- Pan Asian Repertory Theatre*
- Ping Chong and Co.*
Social Justice Organizations
- The AAPI Community Fund
- AAPI Progressive Action
- AAPI Women Lead
- Asian Americans Advancing Justice
- National Asian American Pacific Islander Mental Health Association
- Welcome to Chinatown
We encourage supporting the above organizations, as well as the many other companies doing important work to support the AAPI community.
