The Fellowships at Bennington College
The Fellowships in NYC Theatre at Bennington College provide drama students with paid internships at Off-Broadway non-profit theatres. These fellowships offer students the chance to gain hands-on experience, mentorship, and a comprehensive view of the Off-Broadway theatre world while being immersed in New York City’s vibrant theatre scene.
Established in 2018, the Fellowships in NYC Theatre at Bennington College is an annual program, offering exceptional Bennington College drama students the opportunity to work in paid internships at Off-Broadway non-profit theatre companies during the College’s winter Field Work Term. Students work alongside playwrights, actors, designers, engineers, production staffs (artistic, managerial, marketing, development), and producers to gain a 360-degree view of the Off-Broadway theatre community, as well as an understanding of what it takes for these companies to thrive. Students also receive mentorship and experience live theatre, immersing themselves in New York City theatre to cultivate a deeper, more practical understanding of the theatre world.
Each fellowship provides support for a scholarship to underwrite work at a range of nonprofit Off-Broadway theatres funded by the Lucille Lortel Theatre, inclusive of expenses related to housing, food, and transportation.
